The Benefits of Working in the Computer Software Support Field

The demand for skilled computer software support professionals is bigger than ever before. Computers are not going anywhere, so there will always be a need for people who know how to fix them and the software that is run on them. When working in the software service field you will be helping people troubleshoot and repair problems with particular software programs. Imagine how many different software programs there are, then think about how many tech support workers it takes to handle customer calls for support.

It's not just the job demand that is appealing when it comes to software support. The average technical support specialist makes between $30,000 and $40,000 when just starting out. This figure can rise with experience and also promotions or better jobs. Your geographic location and the company you work for also makes a big difference when it comes to your pay. However, no matter where you live you can bet that a software support tech will be paid rather well for their services because there are special skills and knowledge required.

For many software programs, technical support is available during daylight business hours. This means you would work a daytime shift which is preferable for many people, especially those with families and children. However technical support for some companies is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. While this means you may find yourself working nights, weekends and the occasional holiday it also means more earning potential because of your willingness to be flexible with your schedule. Not to mention the overtime incentives for working certain holidays when most employees are home.

The first step to getting a job in the computer software support field is education. You will need to take computer courses and possibly even graduate from a technical school to get the best possible entry level job. After that, it is a matter of submitting your resume and cover letter to any and every company you can find that interests you. It is important not to be discouraged because it's estimated that out of every 25 resumes you send out you will get one response. With perseverance you can find the perfect job, or at least a stepping stone to the perfect job for you.
